March 20, 2002: Exciting News - Metro Nashville - first in State to pass resolution calling for Moratorium on Executions

Dear Friends,

By a 17-10 vote the Nashville Metropolitan government became the first municipal body in the state of Tennessee to pass a resolution in favor of a moratorium on executions and a comprehensive and independent study of the application of the capital punishment system.

Nashville Metro government joins 62 other municipalities across the country. This victory, championed by council member Brenda Gilmore, hopes to inspire activists in other communities, from large to incredibly small to move similar resolutions through their local governments.

Many thanks,
Hedy Weinberg, Executive Director
