March 30, 2004: SJR127 on Senate Calendar on Wednesday, March 31 - Attack on Privacy Rights of Women ContinuesDear Friends, Just a brief update on the status of SJR127 as we know it today. The bill is on the Senate calendar for Wednesday at 3:30 pm in the Senate Chamber. It is #10 on the calendar. We understand that Senator Fowler is working on an amendment that represents a token attempt to satisfy those in the Senate who want exceptions for victims of incest, rape and serious illness. Senator Fowler's amendment would not actually make those exceptions, but would simply provide a legislative option for adding those exceptions in the future. With or without Senator Fowler's amendment, this bill is an all-out attack on reproductive freedom, and we must rally pro-choice forces to defeat it - again! Please make every effort to attend Wednesday's session. We need to fill the balconies of the Senate Chamber with Tennesseans who will hold this legislature accountable, and defend the freedoms afforded us by the State Constitution. We cannot stand back and allow a group of extremist legislators to weaken our Constitution and rob us of our reproductive rights. Please join us on Wednesday to send a clear message to the Tennessee General Assembly that the pro-choice community will not be bullied. Let's join together to put this extremist legislation to rest once and for all. Wednesday, 3:30 pm in the Senate Chamber. Hope to see you there! Many thanks,
