April 29, 2004: Follow-Up to the "March" - Contact your State RepresentativeDear Friends, I just returned from the "March for Women's Lives."It was an exhilarating weekend and one that those of us who were there will always remember. We need to take the energy from that day and make sure our voices are heard in Washington D.C. and in our own state where we are battling anti-choice forces and efforts to erode privacy rights. We need to remind our elected officials that government cannot and should not interfere with a woman's right to reproductive freedom. Whether you were at the March in person or spirit, please share this message with your friends and colleagues and contact your state legislators today and remind them that their constituents believe in reproductive freedom and the right to privacy in all aspects of their lives. We need you ASAP to contact your House Representative and urge him/her to vote against SJR127 (amending the Tennessee Constitution to remove the right to abortion under the State Constitution) and against HJR990 (amending the State Constitution to define marriage exclusively between a man and a woman). Both these initiatives erode privacy rights and write discrimination into our State Constitution. (The Senate has already passed these egregious resolutions.) To find out contact information for your Representative, go to http://www.legislature.state.tn.us and choose "House" and then "Members." If you are unable to identify your elected officials from this list, go to www.congress.org and type in your zip code for a list of all your representatives and their contact information. Many thanks, PS. ACLU was one of the seven principal organizers and ACLU Executive Director Anthony Romero's remarks were inspiring. To read his full speech and to view pictures from the March, go to www.aclu.org
