May 11, 2004: Victory - SJR127 - Thank the Representatives

Dear Friends,

As many of you know, last night Rep. Black's attempt to pull SJR127 out of committee (where it failed) on to the House Floor failed. SJR127 sponsors needed 66 votes to suspend the rule; they only received 53. As you might imagine, the anti-choice group has already announced that those voting against the suspension of the rules will face strong opposition in the November election.

It is vital that those legislators hear from us. Please write the legislators listed below who voted against suspending the rules and thank them for protecting the committee system. Many of those voting against suspending the rules also support women's reproductive freedom but others who are anti-choice voted against the suspension of the rules because they believe in the committee structure.

Our work is far from over, and in the coming months we will be in touch with all of you as we begin strategizing to strengthen the pro-choice pro-privacy voice.
