SB 2440/HB 2442 would ensure a fair opportunity to Tennesseans seeking a second chance by prohibiting a state employer from inquiring about an applicant’s criminal history on an initial employment application under certain circumstances.

This legislation is a win-win for improving public safety, reducing recidivism, and ensuring that Tennesseans are judged on their merits, not their mistakes.

CURRENT STATUS: This legislation was signed by Governor Haslam on April 14.

TAKE ACTION: Urge lawmakers to remove the criminal record checkbox from state job applications.
