Email Alerts

Join ACLU-TN's Email Alert List, a free and confidential email service designed to alert Tennesseans to civil liberties legislation pending in the Tennessee General Assembly and in Congress, as well as to alert Tennesseans to upcoming events of interest.

The Alert is a crucial part of ACLU-TN's lobbying program. Legislators consider the amount of support or opposition they receive from their constituents when voting on bills. Historically, pro-civil liberties groups have never been very good at generating constituent contact, while anti-civil liberties groups have been quite good at generating hundreds of calls and letters. ACLU-TN's Alert is one way in which we hope to change this trend.

When a civil liberties issue comes up in the state legislature or Congress, ACLU-TN will send out an alert describing the issue, offering a brief analysis, and suggesting the action needed. We want our alerts to generate as many phone calls to legislators as possible, ideally within 72 hours of the time the alert is sent.
