ACLU-TN Students' Rights ConferenceThe American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Tennessee is holding its second-annual Students’ Rights Conference in Nashville. The conference, planned for public and private high school students, will be held Saturday, March 27, at Hillsboro High School. Featured guest speakers are Metro Nashville Juvenile Court Judge Betty Adams Green and Metro Nashville Police Chief Ronal Serpas. Panelists will include Professor Susan Brooks of Vanderbilt Law School; Jeri Mauldin of Metro Nashville Public Defender’s Office – Juvenile Division; and David Hudson and John Ferguson of the Freedom Forum First Amendment Center. The conference will focus on a range of topics, including: Religious Freedom; Dress Codes; Right to Protest; Drug Testing; Zero Tolerance; Curfews; USA PATRIOT Act; Discrimination in Schools; and "Street Law." Student check-in is from 9:30 – 10:00 a.m. on the day of the Conference. The Conference program will begin at 10:00 a.m. and conclude at 4:00 p.m. Plenary sessions, panels, and workshops will take place throughout the day. Lunch will be provided. Students should pre-register for the Conference. Registration forms should be submitted by Monday, March 22, 2004, and are available by calling the ACLU-TN office at (615) 320-7142.
