THE EXONERATED - powerful play about innocent survivors on Death Row - April 29 - May 1 in NashvilleBroadaxe Theatre (www.broadaxetheatre.com) is bringing THE EXONERATED, a powerful American play about six innocent survivors of death row, to Nashville for 4 performances only April 29-May 1 at the Belcourt Theatre. Musician Steve Earle will lead a stellar cast in this gripping tale of American justice turned upside down. Over the summer of 2000, playwrights Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen traveled across the United States, interviewing 40 of the (then) 89 former death row prisoners. They went as far south as Texas and Florida, as far north as Illinois and just about everywhere in-between to meet the people whose stories appear in THE EXONERATED. The interviewees were from vastly different ethnic, religious and educational backgrounds. Their views on the world varied greatly. The only thing they had in common was that all 40 had been sentenced to death, spent anywhere from 2 to 22 years on death row and were subsequently found innocent and eventually freed by the state. Their verbatim interviews and individual court documents form the core of THE EXONERATED. "Intense and deeply affecting . . . The Exonerated reminds you that some American nightmares are never over."—Ben Brantley, The New York Times "The play is on the one hand a devastating memorial to injustice but it also pays handsome tribute to the resilience of human hearts and minds."—Charles Isherwood, Variety For ticket information call the Belcourt Theatre at (615) 846-3150. Tickets are $16.50 for adults and $11.50 for students of all ages. Blocks of 10 tickets will be available for $1.50 discount per ticket if you act now!
