USA PATRIOT ACT Speaker to Lecture in Nashville

Dear Friends,

I wanted to share info about an important program on the USA Patriot Act which will take place in Nashville and Brentwood early next week. The program is free and open to the public. This is not an ACLU-sponsored event, so please contact Shane Lamb at the contact info below if you have any questions.

Hedy Weinberg, Executive Director

Title: The USA Patriot Act: A New Approach to Combating Terrorism Or A Threat to Civil Liberties 30 Years in the Making

Dates: Sunday, Sept. 19th 4-6pm Brentwood Public Library, 8109 Concord Rd, 615-371-0090 & Monday, Sept. 20th 12:00p Vanderbilt Law School, Flynn Auditorium

Both are Free and Open to the Public

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

A member of political prisoner Leonard Peltier's legal team since the original 70's trial, Bruce Ellison is an expert on how the FBI's dirty tricks campaign called COINTELPRO (Counter-Intelligence Program) brutally destroyed the Panthers, the American Indian Movement (AIM) and other popular movements. He will take a look at the strikingly similar USA Patriot Act passed after September 11 and the Patriot Act II which sits in Congress today.

It's not just the government Mr. Ellison has tackled. He has also taken on Bechtel and other multinational corporations to stop the expropriation of water resources in South Dakota for a coal slurry pipeline. Recently he spoke at Yale Law School in the Forum "Freedom in America: Human Rights V. USA Patriot Act", has published writings and has consulted for numerous books, network TV stories, films and documentaries by Robert Redford and Michael Apted among others.
