Politics, Religion and Death: ACLU of Kentucky Board Member Discusses Death Penalty at the Southern Festival of Books-- October 14, 2007ACLU of Kentucky board member, and former chair, Carl Wedekind, has been invited to present and sell his new book, Politics, Religion and Death:Memoir of a Lobbyist, at the Southern Festival of Books in Nashville, TN on the weekend of October 12 to14. The book recounts Wedekind’s experiences lobbying for the abolition of the death penalty in Kentucky. He recounts the funny, sad and unbelievable events that unfolded as the ACLU and the Kentucky Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty battled radical religious fundamentalists and other death penalty advocates. At the Southern Festival of Books Wedekind will share a panel with University of Memphis Professor Margaret Vandiver on the subject, “No Good Deeds: An Historical and Modern Look at Lethal Punishment.” This panel is scheduled from 12:00 to 1:00 Sunday, October 14, in rooms 12 and 14 of the Legislative Plaza located at 6 th and Union in downtown Nashville, with a book signing following at the Signing Colonnade.
