February 4, 2002: February 11 program:
"Executing the Mentally Ill"

"Executing the Mentally Ill: A Panel Discussion." is the topic of a Monday, February 11 program sponsored by Tennesseans for a Moratorium (TME) and other organizations. The program will take place at 7 p.m. at Belmont United Methodist Church, 2007 Acklen Avenue, Nashville, and is free and open to the public.

Speakers include:

Linda G. Manning, Ph.D., Counseling Psychologist and Director of the Women’s Center at Vanderbilt University

Mary Ann Hea, Clinical social worker with the Metro Public Defender’s Office

Linda Gehringer and Darlene Krone, Family members of death row inmate

Brad MacLean, J.D., Co-counsel for Abu-Ali Abdur’Rahman, a mentally ill individual on death row who is scheduled to be executed on April 10

Lee Norton, Ph.D., L.C.S.W., an expert on mental illness and mitigation in capital cases

Dwight Lewis, columnist and editorial board member for The Tennessean, will serve as the moderator.
