ACLU-TN Celebrates Anniversary of Bill of Rights
With Leafleting Across the State

Nashville - On Wednesday, December 15, the American Civil Liberties Union of Tennessee (ACLU-TN) will commemorate the 213th anniversary of the ratification of the Bill of Rights by distributing Bill of Rights bookmarks across the state. ACLU-TN volunteers will be leafleting at street corners in various cities and bookmarks will be mailed to those who call the ACLU-TN office that day.

The Bill of Rights was ratified on December 15, 1791. The bookmarks list the first ten amendments and the 13th, 14th, 15th, and 19th amendments.

According to ACLU-TN Executive Director Hedy Weinberg, "It is especially important this year that we celebrate the Bill of Rights. The systematic attack on civil liberties today at both the state and national levels require that we remind the public of the importance of the freedoms guaranteed by the Bill of Rights. ACLU-TN is committed to increasing awareness of the Bill of Rights and ensuring that our constitutional guarantees are not sacrificed. Our goal is to translate the guarantees of the Bill of Rights into realities for Tennesseans."
