SB 2090/HB 2028 would require courts to consider child-specific factors to be weighed by the sentencing court when selecting a sentence.

Further, it would provide for the review and potential modification sentences of individuals serving life without parole for crimes they committed as minors after they have served a mandatory minimum of 15 years.

Finally, this measure eliminates life without parole sentences for child offenders. It does allow for parole sentences for children convicted as adults for first degree homicide.

CURRENT STATUS: This bill was taken off notice on March 22.

TAKE ACTION: Tell legislators to support the Fair Sentencing of Youth Act of 2016.
