The ACLU can’t do the work we do without you. We are humbled by your support and generosity.

Since the results of the election became clear, we’ve seen a massive outpouring of support for the ACLU and the work we do here.

For those who reached out with support and donations, we have this to say you: We hear you. We thank you. And we’re here for you. Actually, we can’t do it without you.

Because some of the messages you sent us were so inspirational, we collected them  to share with you all.

One college student, who said she is flat broke, donated $100 to the ACLU yesterday, which she financed by credit card debt. ACLU member Marcia C. wrote to tell us this:

As a young person I never ever thought I would be supporting the ACLU.  I was raised to believe it was a dangerous communistic organization.  Then I became a social worker and ultimately worked in social services in various positions throughout my work life.  It became quite obvious to me that people were definitely not treated equally under the law, and I have been a member of the ACLU for many years now.

Then there’s Tamara Andrews-Herskovic, who owns a small chocolate business in rural Wisconsin with her husband. She wrote: “Today we are donating 40% of our online sales to ACLU. … We hope we can help your important work.” And not to be outdone, she wrote back to say that she and her husband would extend the donations for ACLU supporters. All you have to do is buy some chocolate from Mayana Chocolate online, write “ACLU” in the comments at checkout, and the ACLU will get 40 percent of your order.

Other words of support came over Facebook and Twitter and to our blog yesterday telling President-Elect Trump that if he implements the policies he articulated on the campaign trail, we’ll hold him accountable. Here are some of our favorites:

For nearly 100 years, the ACLU has fought for the individual and civil rights of everyone in this great nation of ours. We’ve been able to do this because of people like those above and those reading. We promise will continue to do so for the next four years and far, far into the future. Thanks again for your support.

With love and gratitude,
The ACLU
