SB 1108/HB 615 would make the Bible the official state book of Tennessee.
The ACLU has long defended individuals’ right to freely express their religious beliefs. But the First Amendment makes it clear that government cannot favor one religion over another.
Tennesseans come from many different faith backgrounds. Government officials should not use their official positions to promote their own religious beliefs, more less turn their personal religious views into law.
CURRENT STATUS: Governor Haslam vetoed this legislation on April 14, 2016.
TAKE ACTION: Tell politicians that the government has no business promoting one religion over others.
