Home/Events, General News/November 2 – Know Your Rights: What You Need to Know About Tennessee’s K-12 Censorship Bills

On November 2nd, from 4:30 – 5:30 CT, the Tennessee Coalition for Truth in Our Classrooms will be hosting a virtual event: “Know Your Rights: Updates on What You Need to Know About Tennessee’s K-12 Censorship Bills.”

Join us for a briefing and discussion on the implementation of the anti-truth and censorship laws that passed in the Tennessee General Assembly in 2021 and 2022, and how educators, librarians, students and community members are being affected and responding.

The ACLU of Tennessee will review the content and legal implications of the censorship laws that are impacting our school boards and libraries, as well as classroom curriculum and instruction, and will outline the authority of the state’s Textbook & Instructional Materials Quality Commission.

Attendees will also learn about current advocacy efforts led by the Tennessee Association of School Librarians and Moms for Social Justice, and we encourage others to share their local concerns or efforts as well. Attendees will leave with actionable resources and ways to advocate on these important issues and make sure their voices are heard.
