The Reality of Trans Healthcare in Tennessee: A Conversation with Trans Advocates

October 21, 2022 @ 4:00 pm 5:00 pm

As you may know, Matt Walsh, who posted videos online attacking Vanderbilt’s Pediatric Transgender Health Clinic, is planning a rally protesting the clinic on Friday, Oct. 21 at 4 p.m. CT/5 p.m. ET. This event will be fundamentally dangerous, and groups like the Proud Boys are expected to be there. As such, we wanted to provide an action to take that is safe for everyone and also inclusive of folks outside of Nashville.

ACLU-TN will be hosting a virtual discussion – The Reality of Trans Healthcare in Tennessee: A Conversation with Trans Advocates – along with the Tennessee Equality Project, at the same time as Walsh’s rally. Our webinar will go over the basics of trans health in Tennessee, the legal status of trans health, and action items to take ahead of the upcoming legislative session beginning in January 2023. This is a laid-back, informative session that is curated as a safe space for trans people and their allies, while also providing a counteraction to the dangerous speech Walsh and his allies will be espousing.

This is a trans-created, centered, run, and monitored event meant to center the wellbeing of trans Tennesseans. Our top priority is the safety of our trans community and their allies, and we encourage anyone who feels unsafe in attending any counterprotest in person to join us online for our proactive discussion about what to expect and how to take action. We’ve also created an extremely secure structure to protect trans activists from getting doxed, threatened, or harm.

Registration for the event is required. You can register here, and you’ll receive a confirmation email with the Zoom link to access our discussion. Please share the registration link with anyone you know looking to fight back against this vile anti-trans narrative and wanting to learn ways to do so.
